My Last Art Show

October 18, 2016

wsfaw-card-front-2016

I’ve had a long and wonderful journey with art from painting to fiber to glass with photography along every step of the way.  A year or two ago I announced my retirement from teaching and selling art supplies.  My announcement this year is the end of weekend art shows.  Yes.  This is the last one.  I’ve sold my work at weekend art shows since I was sixteen years old.  This. Is. The. Last.  If you’re in the region I hope you’ll come out & snap up the last of my glasswork.  I’ll be at the first spot on the map below:

back-card-2016

200 SW Edgecliff, at my friend Ann Fleming’s studio.  I’ll still play with art but just for myself, just for fun, and when I’m in the mood…probably only on rainy days.  I’ll still be out in the field trying to capture wildlife with my camera, and will print on demand instead of speculation.  Most of my images will always be available for you to order on paper, canvas or metal in most standard sizes.

This weekend, October 21 – 23; Friday – Sunday from 11am until 5pm.  Come say hello, support our local artists!

Final Postcard Front

I have so many adventures to tell you about but time keeps slipping away!  I must stay home this week to prepare for Art in the Gorge.  18 artists showing our work downtown Hood River at 301 Oak (Third and Oak) in a Pop-Up art show on July 1, 2, and 3!  Open hours 11 am until 7 pm Friday & Saturday; 11 am until 5 pm Sunday.  First Friday in Hood River will be Fabulous!!  Arrive early for easy parking.

A few of the newest prints I’ll have in my booth will give you a glimpse of where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to the past few weeks:

In other news……

Opening the First Friday in November, I’m producing work in my other kiln for…..

snowshow_emailversion

… a gallery show titled ‘Snow’ at Columbia Center for the Arts.  It opens the First Friday in November with a reception from 6 until 8pm and runs through the end of the month.  I’ve created a series of ‘Snow’ Bowls in my ‘Celestial Series’ tradition and will offer my iridescent art glass snowflakes.

Between those two events I’m delivering work to the NEW Holiday Pop-Up Shop in Hood River at 301 Oak, formerly Gallery 301!  “Locally handmade gifts for everyone on your shopping list.”  It is open Fridays and weekends November – December and open every day the week before Christmas from 10am until 6pm.

There’s more in November, but for now I am dashing madly toward my studio!  Hope you’re all having a wonderful fall.  You can see many photographs I’ve taken between my last post and this one on my Facebook Page, Steider Studios.

Steider Studios: Trout Lake Creek. 10.18.13

We’ve had a fantastic fall, full of warm days and cool evenings that bring out fall colors in our foliage.  I went up to Trout Lake to photograph Mt. Adams reflected in the lake; but actually think the above shot, Trout Lake Creek is my best for that day.

Steider Studios: Fall Color on Mt. Adams. 10.18.13

Into Gifford Pinchot National Forest on Mt. Adams, I think I missed the best show of fall by a week but still caught some color.

Steider Studios: Mt. Adams over Trout Lake. 10.18.13

My take on this classic shot.  I think I’ll go back for sunrise and sunset tries over the next few seasons and see what I can come up with.

Steider Studios: Red Leaves

Heading back down the mountain, I stopped at Conboy National Wildlife Refuge but saw no wildlife.  The leaves were mostly past prime there also.

Steider Studios; Mushrooms.10.27.13

I did see mushrooms.  All kinds and colors!

Steider Studios: Red Mushrooms. 10.27.13

Until now I’ve never seen a mushroom as red as this one!

Steider Studios: Golden Sunset 10.9.13

Not taken on the same day, but a good ending for this post, I caught this magnificent golden autumn sunset over the Columbia River Gorge.  I’ve probably said it too many times but I am so lucky to live here!!

You can see many of my photographs published as all occasion greeting cards in my Zibbet shop.

Do you feel a change in the air?

Steider Studios: Windows Project Opening

Yesterday was the Grand Opening Celebration of White Salmon Arts Council’s project, ‘Windows’.   I am honored to be the first artist selected for this fabulous project, showcasing my kiln-formed art glass and art photography.  I know it’s difficult to see my work in this photo due to reflections, so you’ll just have to come to White Salmon and see it for yourself!  My work will remain in this space next to Katina’s Cafe and Catering (a great place for breakfast or lunch) through the end of July.

Steider Studios: Ribbon Cutting with Ann Flemming

‘Windows’, a project suggested and coordinated by Ann Fleming for the arts council uses a ‘Pop-Up- format, turning a vacant downtown storefront window into a window gallery.  Each artist displays their work for one month.  Juris Sarins built the beautiful display panels that make my work ‘pop’!!  Members of the White Salmon Arts Council hold the ribbon while Ann and I cut it during the opening ceremony.  Thanks to Ellen Nippolt for documenting the ceremony.
