Steider Studios: Studio Sale 2014

Thanks so much to everyone who drove to the top of Burdoin Mtn to see my studio & purchase my work!  You make it all worthwhile!!  I’m open by appointment and you can see my work in my ArtFire & Zibbet shops.  Now for some R & R in the garden!

Steider Studios: Sunset yellow.2.28.14

I am way behind, so instead of panicking I’ll just relive the last sunset of February.  I was cooped up all last week  with my computer, CreativeLive and Photoshop trying to learn new tricks.  At the end of the last session on Friday I had to… no, needed to hike down my mountain for fresh air, green forest and hopefully a sunset.  So thrilled I caught the last sunset of February just before March stormed in.

Steider Studios: Sunset Sky.2.28.14

On Sunday, in spite of the March storm I went to the Yard Garden & Patio show with my friend Kathy.  We were so desperate for spring that we braved icy snowy conditions on Interstate 84.  We cruised at a steady 35 to 40 mph & arrived in Portland in time for a fabulous Lebanese lunch and the show.  Our trip home was not as pleasant with a 10-15 mph cruising speed crawling on bumpy washboard ice caused by semi trucks chained up.  I confess that was better than the alternative – skating off the road like some of the abandoned cars we saw.

Now I’m back in the throes of getting ready for my annual studio sale. and working with Gorge Artists Open Studios for next month’s self-guided tour of 40 artist’s studios.  I always wonder if people will venture way up here to my spot on top of Burdoin Mountain to see (and purchase!) my glass & photography.  If you’re so inclined, you can download a pdf of our map from our website onto your iPad (I think it would work on other reading devices too)!

Steider Studios: Sunset.2.28.14

In preparation this year we have THREE venues showing a preview of our work!

Tomorrow night, Thursday March 6th is the opening reception for The Dalles Art Center Preview Show.  From 5 until 7pm you will meet many of our artists – I hope you can make the opening.

We’ll also have a Preview Show in the lobby of Columbia Art Gallery with an opening First Friday, March 7th from 6 until 8 pm.  Most of us will be there to talk about our work & we’d love to see you there.

Trash-2-Art Gallery Show at Columbia Arts

I also have work in the gallery portion of Columbia Art Gallery for the Trash to Art Show during the month of March.  I’ll be hanging out between the lobby area and the gallery for the reception of both shows on First Friday.

If that weren’t enough, the White Salmon Windows project is featuring participating studio tour artists downtown for the month of March.  So, 40 artists have work spread throughout the gorge hoping to tempt you to come to our studios in April!

I’ll post more information about my studio sale closer to the event & hopefully will have something interesting to post between now & then!!  As always, I’m ever so grateful that you took a moment to visit with me!!

Success, Thanks to YOU!

Steider Studios: Studio Sale plus Treasure

The Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour  was a huge success for all.  It was one of my best in the 15 or more years that I’ve been hosting a studio sale.

Before I begin packing and storing all my work I want to thank everyone who stopped by my studio this weekend.  We had so much fun seeing old friends and meeting new friends.

I loved hearing all the compliments!  If you know who it was at the Lyle Winery (could it have been Syncline?) telling everyone not to miss my studio, I’d love to thank that person with a token of my gratitude!!  A favorite moment was the little girl examining all my jewelry, who exclaimed she’d “never seen anything so pretty and sparkly before”.

My studio helpers, Angela, Jean & Cathy were awesome, as always!!  By the way if I didn’t get a chance to tell you, the wine I served was from Cathy’s 30 year old vineyard, DemiAnni Family Winery.  Alex planted and tended his grapes all those years ago and now makes a fabulous wine.  We have the beginning of a Facebook page set up, so please go ‘like’ their page, DemiAnni Family Winery!

Treasure, my door greeter was so tired by Sunday afternoon that she simply gave up the ghost and napped in the midst of us all.  She deserves a long hike tomorrow!  Thank you everyone for your continued support.  Whether you came to my studio, purchase my work from a local gallery or buy on-line,  I could not survive without you!!

Studio Sale 2013 Invitation

The invitations are going out today for my annual studio sale.  To be sure all my glass looks its sparkly best I scour out my cabin, clear the winter cobwebs and even wash windows to let warm sunlight wash over each piece.

All my books and personal possessions are packed away, making room to display everything.  I love this time of year when I get to see my entire body of work, from the ‘discontinued’ glass of yesteryear to the newest work I’m most passionate about.

If you plan to join me on April 12, 13, 14 and need directions, send me an email – linda at steider studios dot com.

I have a limited number of complimentary maps that will lead you to all the other artists on the Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour.  If you’d like one reserved please let me know right away.

Steider Studios: Heron Corner. Nook Show

In addition to the flurry of preparations I’m still in my studio producing more!  Ladybugs are flying out the door from my solo show at ‘The Nook’, as well as buggettes and wall pocket vases.  I’ve replaced my work several times, because it goes home as its purchased.

Steider Studios: Flowers and Buggettes at 'The Nook' Solo Show

This is the last week to see my show at The Nook as well as the Preview Show for all the artists participating in the Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour.  Columbia Center for the Arts is at 215 Cascade in Hood River.

Hope to see you here for my studio sale on April 12, 13 and 14.

Hiking Catherine Creek

March 9, 2013

Steider Studios.Columbia River from Catherine Creek

This has been the busiest spring for me in a very long time.  My opening at The Nook was fabulous!  You can still see the show along with the Preview Show for Gorge Artists Open Studios through the end of March at Columbia Art Gallery in Hood River.  Between preparing for upcoming shows and attending meetings for more upcoming shows I needed a break from my crazy schedule, so headed out to Catherine Creek for a hike.

Steider Studios: Grass Widow

Most people go to Catherine Creek to see wildflowers in bloom.  Grass Widows are nearing the end of their run.

Steider Studios: Grass Widows over Columbia

It’s inspiring and calming to be surrounded by these fields of wildflowers, the deep blue of the Columbia, and under a marvelously sunny warm day.

Steider Studios: Clouds over Mosier

I hiked down to the waterfall area first and watched clouds over Mosier across the Columbia River.

Steider Studios: Robin in Tree

Then I headed up to the arch and found robins!  I also saw a couple of butterflies but they were too fast and far away to identify.

Steider Studios: Catherine Creek

Catherine Creek spilled over the path, but there was a plank to cross just up the creek.

Steider Studios: Robin and Grass Widows

On my way back down there were several robins dining among the wildflowers.

Steider Studios: Robin in Flight

Just as the last robin flew off, I knew it was time to head back to the studio.

Coming up too fast:  Studio sale, the only time you can see EVERYTHING I make (you can read about it in this previous post) April 12, 13, 14 in conjunction with Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour.

Art of the Gorge, I’ll have some art glass and photographs () at Columbia Gorge Hotel in Hood River April 20, 21 in conjunction with Blossom Festival.

Gathering of the Guilds, I’ll have a booth full of art glass April 26, 27, 28 Oregon Glass Guild‘s annual Glass Gallery at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

My final sunrise from the South Point Hotel where I’ve been attending the Glass Craft and Bead Expo in Las Vegas.  I’ve enjoyed this view every morning at 6:30 for the past week.  Today I didn’t want to miss capturing it for you, so raced to the top of the parking garage at 6 am.  I shot for about 45 minutes playing with different settings on my camera.  Can you imagine how fun this would be if my new Lytro camera were in hand? It’s finally enroute, so get ready to re-focus some of my upcoming shots!!  Yes, you’ll be able to re-focus what I post here!  You can play with some of the photos already being sent to Lytro by photographers at this link:

In addition to my love of teaching others about glass possibilities at the Expo, there were excellent networking opportunities.  As a result, I’ll be back at Half Moon Creek in Palmer Alaska this July; and I caught a couple more leads for places that are interested in hosting me as a guest instructor. Thank you Carrie of Calyx Ann for one of them!!

Heading back to White Salmon today to begin preparations for my annual studio sale.  It’s in conjunction again with the  Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour on April 13, 14, and 15.  Yes, you heard correctly!  We’re open for THREE days this year from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

To celebrate, I have a complimentary map for the first three people who bring three or more guests to my studio on each of the three open days.

Until then, I’ll be whirling my way through the cobwebs and my garden to make sure you have a delightful time at my studio!  If you’d like an invitation and aren’t on my guest list already, please let me know so I can send you an invite!!

Steider Studios Celestial Series

A quick update to let you know I’m still alive and producing art, packing it up and delivering it!

This week I delivered work to The Pines Wine Tasting and Gallery in Hood River OR for a preview show of the Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour.  The opening is tonight from 6 to 8 p.m., at Second and State and the show runs through the end of this month.  You’ll have the first opportunity to purchase our cool new maps for your self guided tour, April 13, 14, 15.  Notice, the tour is THREE days this year!  That will give you extra time to tour all our studios plus a bonus night in the Columbia River Gorge, surrounded by inspirational and magnificent vistas.  If you’ve followed my blog for awhile, you know where most of those vistas are.  If you haven’t, just leave a comment or send me a note and I’ll be happy to share some of my favorite haunts.

Steider Studios Celestial Series

Also celebrating our Gorge Artists Open Studios Tour during the month of March is the Columbia Gorge Hotel!  They are hosting artwork from a group of us in the lobby and in their Valentino Lounge.  There will be some other interesting events at the hotel this year, stay tuned!

Steider Studios Celestial Series

The majority of my time the last couple of weeks was spent preparing for the Glass Craft & Bead Expo in Las Vegas March 28 – April 1st!  I’ve been ordering supplies, glass, and kilns, for some fun new classes in addition to Exploring Glass Powders (the one day condensed version of Powderology).  Shimmer Shine and Sparkle was filled so we added a second class that’s still available!  I also have room for more students in Color Theory for Glassists and I’d love to see you in this color-filled class!  Are you going to the Expo?  What classes are you taking?

Back to cutting glass and packing, I’ll see you at the party tonight!
